Obituary of Alberta Lynell Smith

Alberta Lynell Brock Smith, age 80, of El Dorado died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in North Little Rock. Mrs. Smith was born March 25, 1936 in Tylertown, MS. She is the daughter of the late Jerome "Jep" and the late Eva (McKalphin) Brock. She was happily married to Grady Smith from April 5, 1964 until his passing in May of 2002. Alberta or "Bert" as she was lovingly known to friends and family was the consummate homemaker, caring for her children and the children of others, as well. There was always a meal to be shared, a hug, joy, laughter, and an encouraging word at the Smith home. All were welcome there, always. She was the very embodiment of faith, with her "It's not about me, it's all about Jesus Christ" attitude. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Charles J. Brock, Larry J. Brock, Julius and wife Abrizine Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Earl Smith and Robert Smith as well as Robert's wife, Ledora. She is survived and will be deeply missed by three daughters: Vanessa (Thomas) Smith Washington of North Little Rock, AR, Veronica (Bobby) Smith Creer and Vemetric (Steve) Smith Foster, both of El Dorado, AR and two sons: Michael (Tracie) Smith and Mitchell (Jacoria) Smith, both of Bossier City, LA; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three sisters: Jessie M. Brock of New Orleans, LA, Bessie (Jumelle) Warren and Easter (Billy) Foxworth, both of Farmerville, LA and four brothers: George "Seifuddin" (Wardah) Bilal of Franklinton, LA, Tommie (Caldonia) J. Brock, and Billy R. Brock, both of Farmerville, LA; William (Joyce) L. Brock, of El Dorado, AR; brothers and sisters-in-law, Betty and Billy Morris and Nettie Jean Fields, all of Farmerville, LA, James and Ritch Smith of Pomona, CA, James Nelson of Pine Bluff, Evelyn Johnson of Marion, LA, Jeannette Biggs of Strong, AR, Sharon Varnado of New Orleans, LA and a great host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends, all of whom were made to feel "special" to her, in her own loving way. Public visitation will be Tuesday, May 17 from 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1018 E. Wilson St, El Dorado, AR with Family Hour and wake from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 18 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1018 E. Wilson St, El Dorado, AR with Pastor Barry Dobson officiating. Burial will follow at Little Hope Cemetery, 1705 Pilgrim Rest Church Rd, Spearsville, LA, under the direction of Henderson Funeral Service. Online guestbook available at www.hendersonsmortuary.com.
