Obituary of Essie M. McGhee

Sister Essie Mae McGhee was born the first of twin girls on August 28, 1923 in Minden, Louisiana to Dan McGhee and Gertrude Curby. In 1925, Essie moved with her family to Taylor, Arkansas. There she attended school under the tutorship of the late Professor Powell. Sister McGhee was blessed with two chldren, a son and a daughter. Her son, Alma Richards was born in 1940 and was fondly referred to as "Sonny Boy". Her daughter, Earline Hays, followed in 1943. In 1962, she relocated to Magnolia, Arkansas. It would be her home for the majority of her life. Magnolia was where Sister McGhee worked at the bakery and even briefly had her own store. She was led to unite with Murphy Temple Church under the leadership of Elder Murphy and later with Austin Temple, under the leader ship of Elder Thomas. She was an active member of the church, including being an usher and a member of the Bible Band. Sister McGhee remained a part of the fellowship until her departure from Magnolia in 2006. Sister McGhee enjoyed many activities and was quite independent. She enjoyed reading her Bible and did so faithfully. She also loved to fish and spent a great deal of time with a fishing rod in her hand. She would regularly travel to a nearby lake for her favorite pastime. Following the death of her sister Arlie, and an illness of her own, Sister McGhee left Magnolia and moved to Denver to be with her twin sister Bessie. She would spend the remainder of her years with family there. Sister McGhee loved the Lord and was truly a dutiful servant of God. After a lifetime of labor, she was called to reward on January 17, 2013.
