Obituary of Ocie B. Nunley

Mother Ocie B. Nunley was born in Shongaloo, Louisiana to Annie Mae Grason and William Phillips on May 7, 1922. On September 8, 1938 she married L.D. "Tobe" Nunley and moved to Emerson, Arkansas. They had eight children. Her husband and five of their children: J.L., Louis, Charles, U.T. and Olivia Nunley all preceded her in death. She joined Sweet Home Baptist Church at an early age and there served as a Sunday School teacher, usher and choir member. Later, she moved her membership to the Glover Memorial Church of God in Christ, where she was a beloved and devoted "Mother" of the church and a faithful member until death. Mother Nunley loved to praise, worship and pray and took every opportunity afforded her to give testimony of God's grace. "The Lord was truly her Shepherd". She loved making quilts, hats, scarves and dresses and had a true gift for growing flowers. Mother Nunley is survived by three children: Pearlene (Myres) Dawson and Helen (Hurley) Royster both of Albuquerque, NM and Harold (Alvina) Nunley of Quinlan, TX, one sister: Margaret Timmons of Minden, LA, twenty-one grandchildren,(including one special granddaughter, Janice (Tim) Ferguson), thirty-one great-grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren. Funeral will be held at the Glover Memorial Church of God in Christ, Emerson, AR on Friday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Noxube Cemetery, Emerson, under the direction of Henderson Funeral Service.
