Obituary of Ethel Wright

We are sad to announce that our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt Ethel Warren Wright departed this life of natural causes at 5:00 A.M. on June 3, 2020 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Atlanta, GA. Daughter of the late Benjamin and Sigile Warren, she was born August 5, 1926 in Falcon, AR. She grew up and received her education in Falcon, AR and Waldo, AR. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wright and seventeen siblings. For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. II Corinthians 5:1 (KJV) Ethel joined Mount Superior Church at an early age; it was her spiritual home her entire life where she served on numerous ministries and community outreach programs. One of Ethel’s passions was gospel singing, and she loved recounting memories of singing in the Melody Five Quartet as they traveled around the state and broadcasted every Sunday morning on the radio. Ethel was also a life-long educator: She obtained her degree in Education from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (formerly Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal College) and worked as a teacher for over 18 years. Ethel also obtained her Cosmetology license and opened Wright’s Beauty Salon where she served the community as a cosmetologist for 46 years. In service to her state, Ethel was appointed by then Governor William (Bill) Jefferson Clinton to serve on the Arkansas State Board of Cosmetology for 18 years where she helped develop policy for students and salons and performed on-site inspections. She was a lifetime member of the Arkansas Cosmetology & Barber Association, Inc. To cherish her memories, Ethel is survived by her son, Mack Wilbourn, Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, McKenzie Wilbourn and Marquis Wilbourn; three great grandchildren, Mason, Mckenzie Jr. and Madison; all of Atlanta, GA; Mollie Roseman (Edward), Atlanta, GA, who she also loved as a daughter; goddaughter, Judy Tatum (Rev Sylvester Tatum) of Stamps, AR; companion-caregiver, Verna Mack of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and faithful friends. Service and Interment Due to Covid-19, the family of Mrs. Ethel Warren Wright will hold a private home going service with committal rites at the graveside. A viewing will be held on Friday, June 12th from 12pm - 4pm at Henderson's Mortuary located at 614 Calhoun Road, Magnolia, AR 71753. Online guestbook available at www.hendersonsmortuary.com.
